 What is a Verb?

A verb is a word that expresses an action, occurrence, or state of being. In a sentence, verbs are the main component that indicates what the subject does or what happens to the subject. For example, in the sentence “She runs every morning,” the word runs is the verb, as it shows the action being performed by the subject.

বাংলায়:

ক্রিয়া হলো এমন একটি শব্দ যা কোনও কাজ, ঘটনা বা অবস্থাকে প্রকাশ করে। একটি বাক্যে, ক্রিয়া মূল উপাদান যা বলে কীভাবে বিষয়টি কাজ করছে বা কী হচ্ছে। উদাহরণস্বরূপ, "সে প্রতিদিন সকালে দৌড়ায়," এই বাক্যে "দৌড়ায়" হলো ক্রিয়া, যা বিষয়টি কী করছে তা বোঝাচ্ছে।

Types of Verbs

Verbs can be categorized into several types, each serving a different purpose in a sentence. Here are the most common kinds of verbs:

1. Action Verbs (ক্রিয়া প্রকাশক ক্রিয়া)

Action verbs express physical or mental actions that a subject performs. These verbs tell us what the subject is doing.

Examples:

Run (দৌড়ানো)

Eat (খাওয়া)

Think (ভাবা)

বাংলায়:

ক্রিয়া প্রকাশক ক্রিয়া এমন ক্রিয়া যা কাজকে প্রকাশ করে, যেমন বিষয়টি কী করছে তা জানায়।

2. Linking Verbs (সংযোগকারী ক্রিয়া)

Linking verbs do not show action. Instead, they connect the subject of the sentence with more information about the subject, often describing a state of being.

Examples:

Is (হয়)

Seem (মনে হয়)

Become (হয়ে ওঠা)

বাংলায়:

সংযোগকারী ক্রিয়া কাজ প্রকাশ না করে, বরং বিষয়ের সাথে বাক্যের তথ্যকে সংযোগ করে।

3. Helping Verbs (সহায়ক ক্রিয়া)

Helping verbs are used alongside main verbs to form different tenses, moods, or voices. They "help" the main verb to express when an action happens or the nature of that action.

Examples:

Am (আমি)

Have (আছে)

Will (ইচ্ছা)

বাংলায়:

সহায়ক ক্রিয়া মূল ক্রিয়ার সাথে ব্যবহার করা হয় এবং বিভিন্ন কাল, ভাব প্রকাশে সাহায্য করে।

4. Transitive Verbs (সকর্মক ক্রিয়া)

Transitive verbs need a direct object to complete their meaning. Without the object, the sentence may not make sense.
