Task 1:

Question No: 1. Observe the image below. Then, in pairs or groups, discuss the facts it represents. Consider what actions you might have taken if you had been present during those significant moments. Finally, write your reflections in your answer script.  (15 minutes)


Sample Answer: 
Fact: The 21st February Movement, also known as Ekushey, refers to a significant event in the history of Bangladesh (formerly East Pakistan) that took place on February 21, 1952. This movement was a protest against the imposition of Urdu as the sole official language of East Pakistan (now Bangladesh), disregarding the Bengali language spoken by the majority of the population.


On that day, students and activists in Dhaka (the capital of East Pakistan at the time) demonstrated demanding recognition of Bengali as one of the state languages of Pakistan. The protests escalated, leading to clashes with police forces. During these protests, several students were killed, which intensified the movement and galvanized public support for linguistic and cultural rights.

The 21st February Movement ultimately played a crucial role in the recognition of Bengali as one of the official languages of Pakistan (alongside Urdu) in 1956. This day is now commemorated annually as International Mother Language Day worldwide, as declared by UNESCO in 1999, to promote linguistic and cultural diversity and multilingualism.


My Activity if I were present: If I were present during the significant moments of the 21st February Movement in 1952, here are some actions I might have considered:

1. Participating in Demonstrations: I would join the students and activists in peaceful protests to show solidarity and demand recognition of Bengali as a state language.

2. Organizing Support: I might help organize rallies, distribute leaflets, and mobilize more people to participate in the movement.

3. Communicating the Cause: Utilizing any available platforms, including local media or community gatherings, to educate others about the importance of language rights and the impact of language on cultural identity.

4. Supporting the Injured: Providing first aid or support to those injured during clashes with authorities, ensuring they receive medical attention and care.

5. Documenting Events: Documenting the events through writing, photography, or other means to preserve the history and spread awareness about the movement's significance.

6. Negotiating and Advocating: Engaging in dialogue with authorities or representatives to peacefully advocate for the recognition of Bengali as a state language and the resolution of the conflict.

7. Sustaining Momentum: After the initial protests, continuing to support the cause by participating in ongoing discussions, meetings, or initiatives aimed at securing language rights.

These actions would aim to contribute to the peaceful advancement of the movement's goals and ensure that the voices advocating for linguistic and cultural rights are heard and respected.

Theme:   "I Wandered Lonely as a Cloud" by William Wordsworth is the beauty and joy found in nature. The poem highlights how the sight of golden daffodils dancing in the breeze brings the speaker immense happiness and solace, even when he recalls them later in his mind. This connection with nature provides a lasting sense of peace and pleasure.
