6. International Mother Language Day
Mother tongue or mother language
is a celestial means of reveal their ideas, thoughts, feelings, emotions and
what not so easily and spontaneously than all other languages do. Our mother
tongue is ‘Bangla’ and the day on which it first came into lime light is the 21st
February of 1952. On the 21st February in 1952, many heroic sons of
our land dedicated their vigorous lives to establish ‘Bangla’ as the official
language of our country. The 21st February is such a red letter day
which had been called the ‘Shaheed Dibash’ since 1952 to 1998. The 21st
February has been declared as the International Mother Language Day by the
UNESCO in its 30th general meeting on the 17th November,
1999. The worldwide recognition of the immortal 21st February has
illuminated the glory and status of our nation before all other nations in the
world. The 21st February is a public holiday for our country. This
very day is observed all over the country with befitting manner. Every year on
the 21st February people from all walks of life get up early in the
morning and gather at the central Shaheed Miner in front of the Dhaka Medical
College in order to offer
profound homage and tribute to the memory of the language martyrs. In keeping
with the dignity of the memorable day. People singing the immortal song “ Amar
Bhayer Rokte Rangano Ekoshe February” go to the Shaheed Minar barefooted to
offer flowers and wreaths on its basement. They remain standing in silence
before the shaheed Minar and show their profound respect to Salam, Barkat,
Rafiq, Jabboor and other unknown martyrs of the language movement. People also
pray for the salvation of the soul of the martyrs through out the country in
different religious institutions. Different socio-cultural organizations
organize many programs to celebrate the day as well as to commemorate the
language martyrs. The very significance of the 21st February is that
on this special day of 1952, the heroic language martyrs who protested against
the unlawful decision of the then Pakisthani government that is , “Urdu;
only Urdu shall be the state language of
Pakisthan” were brutally killed at the
processions of the language movement. We are proud of our language martyrs
because their blood-shedding dedication compelled the then Pakisthani
government, to make Bangla the mother tongue of the Bangladesh. In fact, the 21st
February as well as the International Mother Language Day reminds us that the
noble dedication of our heroic language martyrs is a perennial inspiration of
how to face our difficulties and challenges in the battle of life.
7. A Book Fair
A book fair is such an occasional
festival where an organized display of a large number of books is shown in a
good number of stalls for both sale and advertisement. Now-a-days book fairs
are becoming more and more popular and attractive among the general mass. These
are usually held in different cities and towns on some special occasions. In
our country book fairs are generally arranged on the occasions of “Ekushey
February” at Bangla
Academy premises and
“Eid-E-Miladunnabr” at Baitul Mukarram compound. Books of different tastes on
different subjects like literature, politics, general knowledge, fiction etc.
are decorously kept and displayed in the stalls of different shapes and sizes
to attract the attention of the bookish people. A book fair is mainly an
exposition of books like rare foreign books, important native books, recreational
books and textual reference books. Besides books, cassettes of Rabindra
Sangeet, Nazrul Geeti, Folk songs and of recitation are also put on display for
sale. All the leading publishers set up book stalls in a book fair. Some
importers of foreign books also have their own book stalls. Bangla Academy
and Islamic Foundation open stalls at book fairs. Usually the book fair becomes crowd in the
evening and some times at night until 10 o’clock. Different types of cultural
programmes are also arranged in the book fair. At one corner of a book fair the
visitors can take refreshments in a few stalls that sell snacks, mainly
traditional Bangladeshi snacks. A book fair reminds a man of its vital role in
spreading education and knowledge on national heritage, history, culture etc.
of a country. As books are our best friends they help us by widening our
outlook and broadening our minds and views to choose the right paths in life.
To add, the utility of a book fair is, therefore, needless to mention and hence
it should be made more popular for a better and happier national life.
8. Load-Shedding
Load
shedding means the discontinuation of supply of electricity. Now-a-days
load-shedding has become a household word. It occurs when generation of power
is less than the demand and also for unplanned distribution of electricity. In
order to cope with the shortage of supply of electricity, the authority
concerned stops the flow of electricity to some areas for some time. It is
almost a daily occurrence in our country. There is hardly any area which is not
affected by it. When the supply of current is stopped in an area the whole area
dives into the darkness. Shops, factories, houses, hospitals etc are mainly
affected by it. Life comes to a standstill. Mills, factories stop functioning
for the time being. If it is continued for several hours, the production
hampers seriously. The students are affected by it if it occurs at night. They
sit idle in the dark closing their books. The housewife gropes in darkness in
the kitchen. Besides due to load shedding, food kept in the refrigerators get
rotten. The commodities kept for preservation in the cold storages get spoilt.
Air-conditioners and fans stop functioning. So, load shedding is a great
problem in our country. It shouldn’t be allowed to continue in the present
situation. The whole country is bound to collapse if the present condition of
load shedding is not improved. The government must to take necessary steps to
cheek it as early as possible. Accordingly the government should set up more
power stations in the country. Corruptions in this sector must be stopped with
an iron hand.
9. Tree
Plantation
Tree plantation, which means planting trees,
is essential for our survival, as trees are very useful and inseparable part of
our life in many ways. Trees are our best friends. We should plant trees
because they preserve ecological balance by assimilating carbon-di-oxide and
producing oxygen which is essential for man to survive. Trees help us a lot by
giving us food and shade. We get wood from trees for fuel and furniture. Trees
are not only keep weather cool and healthy but also keep our environment
suitable for living. They help to prevent drought and floods and save land from
erosion. Trees are drastically destroyed by different natural calamities and
are cut down for different purposes. Man is want only cutting trees helping
global warming and also helping a country to become desert. They are not
planting sufficient number of new trees. For this trees are decreasing day by
day. The destruction trees disrupts our ecological balance, leads to soil
erosion deprives us of fruits and timbers and finally causes economical loss of
the country. Thus we should plant more and more trees. Enough trees will keep
safe us in our environment. A safe environment will save us from different
disasters and keep us a happy and healthy life. The program of the tree plantation is celebrated every year
under the auspices of the government not only in the towns but also in countryside.
Even house, school, college, hospital, bank and other institutions are asked to
plant trees. Recognizing the necessity of trees plantation, seedlings and
saplings are often supplied to the general people by the forest department of
the government.

My Last Day At School
Like first day, last day at school is also remarkable. It
remarks a student that he or she is going to enter into a new path of life. In
last day at school a student feels very happy on the other hand they feel sad
as well. On the occasion of our last day, a function was arranged in our school
compound after publishing the result of our test exam. A stage was decorated
nicely. Many guests were invited among them the police super was the chief
guest. Our head master presided over the function. The function began with the
recitation from the holy Quran. The invited guests delivered valuable speeches
to us. Our head master gave a very instructive speech for us. Next the chief
guest took the floor. Including I some of our class mates delivered speeches
there. We were given some gifts. We donated a tube-well to our school on behalf
of the S.S.C. examinee. A mind-blowing cultural program was arranged. Many of
us performed there. I my self sang a Nazrul Sangit there. At last we went to
our honorable teachers and saluted them. We begged pardon for our mistakes. We
also begged pardon to our juniors. During the departure many of us could not
bear their tears. At all it reminded me that it is system of the world to
change place. The last day at my school will be remarkable for ever.
